Mid Ohio ALMS Blog

What an amazing week!

I had a great experience at the legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Couse, driving the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport’s American Le Mans  Series Prototype Challenge car with Our World Live, (OWL), and C.J. Wilson’s Children’s Charities onboard.

We tested on Tuesday, and I have to say that I fell in love with the track; very busy, with a lot of elevation changes and a great variety of corners. Mid-Ohio is not a typical point and shoot circuit as so many contemporary-designed tracks are these days. I knew I had my work cut out for me on this narrow and tight track; passing the slower classes of cars would be challenging and vital to success. The testing went well, and I got my times down to a competitive level.

I started the car from 5th on the grid; our plan was to be fast, consistent, and to stay out of trouble; let the aggressive competitors make mistakes and fall by the wayside. Sure enough, many competitors did as expected, taking themselves out of the race and/or getting penalized for their mistakes. I brought the car in after my stint, and handed it over to teammate Javier in 2nd place…feeling good about my and the teams performance.

Then the rain came…and dumped mass quantities on the track; more mistakes from competitors, but not the PR1 squad. We stuck with our strategy and brought the car home in 3rd place! On the podium!! What a fantastic result and a dream realized!!

Thanks to my team, sponsors, and all the fans for their support! I hope to see you all at the races soon. ;)

Next up…back to Asia for the VW Scirocco R Cup in Sepang, Malaysia.
