We had a pretty good weekend at the first ever Grand Am Sports Car Event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. One could FEEL the history when entering such hallowed ground; what an amazing venue! Instead of the standard scenario of testing on Thursday, practice on Friday, then racing on Saturday, we practiced, qualified, and raced on Friday; all within the time span of about 6 hrs. This was due to Grand Am sharing the weekend with the NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup series. I ended up qualifying P12 after only 15 mins of practice, and started the race. I made my way up to the front and led 2 laps before making my pit-stop, handing the car over to teammate Aleks Altberg. Aleks had a great run with the car, but an unexpected short period of rain ruined our race strategy. We pitted again and put on rain tires. Grand Am then red flagged the even and we all sat as the track dried…why? I don’t know; we usually race in the rain. When they finally restarted the race, we had to once again pit, this time for dry tires. This put us around 12th, but Aleks rallied and managed to get us up to P8. Happy that we scored a top 10 at the legendary Speedway, but not quite satisfied; we had the car and drivers to have finished on the podium. Next up is the Lamborghini Trofeo Cup in Ordos, Mongolia!
