David had a tremendous week at the legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Couse, driving the PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport’s American Le Mans Series Prototype Challenge car with Our World Live, (OWL), and C.J. Wilson’s Children’s Charities onboard.
Tuesday’s testing was an eye-opener in regards to what it would take to tame the beast and succeed at the narrow and tight track. David methodically learned the track and lowered his lap times. The successful test proved vital to our result on Saturday.
Qualifying went well, teammate Javier Echevarria proved himself as a strong partner, putting the car in the top 5.
On race day, the team’s strategy was to be fast, consistent, and to stay out of trouble in regards to passing slower traffic and aggressive competitors. Those eager competitors did as expected, often taking themselves out of the race and/or getting penalized for their poor judgement and mistakes. David and Javier stayed with the program; David handed the car off to Javier in 2nd place.
Then the sky opened up; monsoonal conditions resulted in more mistakes from other competitors, but the PR1 drivers stayed with the plan and brought the car home in 3rd place! The two rookie drivers in there first ever American Le Mans LMPC race, on arguably one of the toughest courses in the nation, finished on the podium!!
Next up…back to Asia for the VW Scirocco R Cup in Sepang, Malaysia.
