What a fantastic streak! Finishing 2nd, only 12 seconds out of the lead after 12 hrs. of racing in Asia’s biggest endurance race, the Merdeka Millinium; 7 podiums, victorious in the last 4 in the Pacific F2000 series. I now know what it takes to be a consistent winner and podium finisher; how to qualify up-front, how to go fast on cold tires, and how to control a race from the front. We came up a bit short in the F2000 series, finishing 2nd in points, but the learning experience gained was phenomenal, and will serve me well in the future.
The last 2 rounds of the VW R-Cup humbled me a bit; got little track time b4 qualifying and started race 1 from P9. I made it up to 6th, but backed off near the end in order to finish 8th and start on pole for race 2, which proved to be very competitive. I was nudged hard from behind, knocking the toe out in the right rear. With the car less predictable and responsive, I was forced to slow, finishing P6.
Time to head back to the States for some brake testing at Buttonwillow, and some instructing at Vegas. Looking forward to a bit of time at home b4 heading back to China for the final 2 rounds of the VW R-Cup…and then some needed down-time to prepare for 2012!
